Established on 29th April 1931, the club was inaugurated by Shri Raja Raghbir Singh, Kangra District’s acting Deputy Commissioner (DC) at that time. His vision was to initiate a recreational hub for Government Officers. As a result. It was initially known as “Officers Club”. No outsiders were allowed inside the club.
Dharamshala’s population was very low (around 3,000). The only club in its complete form, it was joined by 15 to 16 government officers. Later, the board also offered membership to few indigenous people that mainly included advocates, college professors, and defense officers making a total of 28 members in 1954. According to the constitution formed, DC is considered to be the club’s president by default. Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, etc. were the senior members elected amongst all.
Monthly get-togethers, dinner parties, joint kitties, etc. were the activities held at the club initially. Rummy became a usual game for the members seeking entertainment. Members were interested in enjoying the social life, indulging in Dhauladhar’s picturesque, and therefore spending a good time together. Special Events included festival celebrations like Diwali & Holi.
Current Scenario:-
Now the present strength of the club members counts around 160. Entertainment has reached to its next level. The club offers a plethora of sports to play, excellent hospitality, gym facilities, lounge bar & restaurant, and the best that it can offer. While the club is evolving with modern decorum and lifestyle, it strictly follows the sensitivity with which the club was established.
